Dolphin 7 Tip: Prevent Uploaded Avatars from Displaying in Photo Album

Look in the directory for the following file:

/modules/boonex/avatar/templates/base/block_wide.html

Download this file and open it with an html editor [such as CoffeeCup]

Look for the following line of code, around line 22 of the script.

Note: The span elements should be written with the appropriate "< and >" symbols, but in order to display the text correctly they were omitted here.

Remove this whole block of code and then save and re-upload, "block_wide.html" to the server.

Hulu Plus Paid Service Competes With Cable

Hulu has thrown down the gauntlet down in front of major Cable Companies. They announced today that they are launching a new paid subscription service for watching series TV on computers. Hulu Plus will cost $9.99 a month and initially will only be available to pre-selected subscribers. Hulu is not intending to replace what they already provide there will still be many TV programs streaming for free. The paid service will provide extra seasons to programming that is currently available and expand the episodes available of shows in current production.

The new service will be transportable to iPhones, videogame consoles and Blu-ray players. GE’s NBC Universal, News Corp and Walt Disney Co. who own such shows and “Modern Family” and “30 Rock” will be providing services and are primed to directly compete with an online service being planned by cable and satellite television called TV everywhere. Although many die hard television watchers will be impressed with this service. The new service will run as many ads as are currently seen on the free version and new show will still be available as they have been in the past, the morning after they premier the only difference is that they are expanding the content repository.

Hulu is priming itself to be among other companies offering internet streaming services such as Netflix, Inc. and Google’s You Tube. Although, Hulu’s chief executive Jason Kilar says that he sees Hulu Plus as a supplement and not a replacement for cable subscriptions. Current Hulu users can request an invitation to Hulu Plus online where users will be gradually converted. The goal is have the general public be able to join Hulu Plus just before the fall 2010 television season begins.

An obstacle that Hulu may face is that subscribers may not be willing to pay for older episodes when they can watch the new ones for free.

Zerotracer the Electric Motorcycle Tron Style

As you can see by the video Zerotracer is a two passenger motorcycle designed very similarly to the light bike from the 80's cult flick TRON. One major caveat to this vehicle is that it is electric and is completely petroleum free. It can run for up to 2 hours with a range of 280 miles on a single charge. It is created by the Swiss engineers at DesignWerk in Winterthur, Switzerland. Zerotracer is very impressive especially considering that it has an acceleration rate of zero=to=60 miles in 4.5 seconds.

FourSquare [Explore Your City]

FourSquare is a great mobile application that connects you and your friends in exploring your city. You would use foursquare to "check-in", which is a way of telling us your whereabouts by your phone. When you check-in someplace, we'll tell your friends where they can find you and recommend places to go & things to do nearby. People check-in at all kind of places - cafes, bars, restaurants, parks, homes, offices. You can earn badges by check-in at a particular place more then others. Once FourSquare determines that you are the person who most frequents a place, you are declared the Major!

To start you would download the application onto either you iPhone, Blackberry, Android or a Palm. If you are not using anyone of these phones but you have web access you could use the mobile website directly. If you have a phone that doesn't have a web browser, you can use our SMS shortcode to check-in by sending messages to 50500 (like this: @ Hana Sushi ! enjoying happy hour and spicy tuna).

What makes this all worthwhile is that local businesses will increasingly offer specials and exclusive discounts to confirmed Mayors. So whip out that phone and connect with your friends, explore your city and make new acquaintances.
